Every springtime in Holland, field upon field of flowers burst into colourful bloom.

To experience it at its best we visit the Keukenhof Gardens, known as ‘The Greatest Flower Show on Earth’. Every year, people flock to see the world’s largest bulb garden where 7 million bulbs come to life with tulips, hyacinths and daffodils, set out in formal beds & colourful drifts. Admire the colourful arrays of ornamental shrubs, blossoming fruit trees, natural woodland and perhaps pick up some ideas or buy some bulbs for your own garden.

The hotel is the Essenburgh Castle – used many times by IOW Tours.  Step back in time in this imposing, 17th Century castle in a beautiful location in Hierden, close to Harderwijk. You’ll find an oasis of calm here in the green heart of the Veluwe. Hotel Kasteel de Essenburgh ”“ Hampshire Classic has forty rooms, including several castle rooms, with views across the rustic, English landscape garden and pond. If you’re lucky you’ll even spot deer from your room.

The kitchen in the vaulted cellar’s restaurant uses only fresh and as far as possible, organic, produce. From chocolate “castle muffin” to sorbet, it’s all home-made for your included 3-course dinner.

You will also visit a cheese & clog farm where you can watch the traditional artisan craftsmen at work. There’s a morning in Amersfoort, renowned for its monuments, churches, museums, city walls, gates and beautiful canals, followed by an afternoon in the beautiful Royal Palace of Het Loo in Apeldoorn; this is a spectacular Palace with beautiful baroque style gardens, known as the ‘Versailles of the North’.

You also spend a day in the capital Amsterdam, so you can explore this vibrant city, famous for its canals, diamonds and home of Anne Frank. Your driver will drop you off near the main attractions and assist you with where to visit.
