Join IOW Tours this August as we go GoWightAway for a Day to The Annual New Forest Show.
Taking place in Brokenhurst in the heart of the National Park, The New Forest Show offers visitors 30 acres of showground for the whole family to explore. 2020 marks the 100th year since the establishment of the New Forest Agricultural Show Society who organise the New Forest Show. The event takes place annually and is now rated among the top ten agricultural shows in the country. The show became a regular event and became very popular, because as well as well as being a chance to show stock and produce, the event was a great meeting place for New Forest residents, farmers and commoners, Moving from venue to venue, including Brokenhurst, Hinton Admiral, Totton, and Lyndhurst. The show eventually took up permanent residence in its present home at New Park, Brokenhurst in 1955.
The New Forest Agricultural Show Society was founded in 1920 and the first New Forest and Hampshire Country Show was held in 1921 as a small one day local event at Bartley Cross.
Nowadays, The New Forest and Hampshire County Show is an annual three day agricultural Show, at the end of July/start of August attracting around 95,000 visitors over the duration. Show jumping is a major feature with international classes held throughout the three days. A full range of equestrian classes also feature, as well as livestock competitions including cattle and sheep, plus a poultry section, rabbits, cage birds and honey bees.
The Show is rated amongst the top ten agricultural Shows in the country and the visit of Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh in 2012 boosted the profile of the Show to its highest level yet. The New Forest Agricultural Show Society and is very conscious that it continues to build on its remit of the holding of an annual Show to promote and encourage the development of agriculture, forestry, equestrianism and horticulture and encourage the improvement in the breeding of stock.
The Show continues to grow from strength to strength and we are assisted in the running on the show by around 500 volunteers, who give their time freely to support and promote the event, without their invaluable assistance the show would not be the success it is today.
The New Forest and Hampshire County Show helps raise funds to support the New Forest Agricultural Show Society and other local and national charitable organisations.
