Our exciting new tour is based in the 4-Star Hotel Bruggewirt nestled in St Johann in the Austrian Tyrol. The tour features some the best excursions in to the Tyrol and German Bavaria, visiting some of the most spectacular attractions of the Tyrolean region. We enjoy a day in historic Salzburg with a guided tour and a ride of one of the Tyrol’s famous “Little Trains” with, followed by a visit to Lake Chiemsee with a boat trip to the impressive Herrenchiemsee Palace.
A real treat and a highlight of this tour is a day to the extravagant “Bavarian Versailles” Herrenchiemsee Palace. In 1873 King Ludwig II of Bavaria acquired the Herreninsel as the location for his Royal Palace of Herrenchiemsee (New Palace). Modelled on Versailles, this palace was built as a “Temple of Fame” for King Louis XIV of France, whom the Bavarian monarch fervently admired.
Arrive by short boat cruise over Lake Chiemsee, where you are met by Horse & Carriage to whisk you away on a 15 minute ride to the Palace. Spend time wandering the Grand Halls of this Bavarian Palace and your entrance includes the King Ludwig II museum and the Augustinian Monestry.
No time would be complete in the Austrian Tyrol without a ride on one of the narrow gauge “Little Trains” – included is a journey on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn through the Kitzbühel Alps. This is a truly spectacular journey from Zell am See to Krimml, and the coach then continues to Krimml Falls, Austria’s highest waterfalls.
This tour will give you a fantastic opportunity to also visit the Sound of Music Region, with time to explore in Salzburg. On your free day we have included a St Johann Card which can be used on the local buses and the cable car, just a 10 minute stroll away, offering a ride with spectacular views.
