Considered to have the most beautiful coastline in Europe, curving around the Mediterranean from Tuscany in the east to the French border in the west, the Italian ‘Riviera of Flowers’ offers many vistas, from green hills of inland valleys to historic hilltop villages and beautiful sandy beaches.

The pastel shades of the buildings complement the striking blue of the skies and Mediterranean – it’s easy to see why the coast gets it’s name of the Cote d’Azur or Costa Azzura! Based in the charming Italian coastal resort of Diano Marina, experience traditional Italian hospitality on the shores of the Med.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

After taxi pick ups from home & local pick-ups in Portsmouth, we travel to Dijon for our overnight stop with fixed menu.

 DAY 2

Arrive at our hotel late afternoon, for a welcome drink and time to settle in prior to dinner.

DAY 3

Today, we will follow the scenic coastal road into France and visit the famous resort of Monaco. We visit the Prince’s Palace with its 15th Century frescoes, its Louis XVth lounge and the Throne Room with its impressive Renaissance fireplace. The 17th Century Palatine Chapel and St Mary’s Tower are also very impressive! We can then enjoy lunch in one of the many restaurants overlooking the harbour or sit on the harbour wall and enjoy the sunshine whilst admiring the magnificent yachts of the rich and famous.

DAY 4

Free Day to spend relaxing with a book by the pool or walking along the lovely sandy beach near our hotel.

DAY 5

This morning we make our way to Ventimiglia to visit its famous Friday market. Lying on the border, it became famous for its markets for which many French locals and tourists cross the border each week. We will then make our way to San Remo. For 300 years, San Remo has attracted the aristocracy to its palm-fringed shores. Spend the afternoon exploring the historic La Pigna area of the town (if steps and steep inclines are not an issue) or visiting the Villa Nobel and Gardens (not included), where the founder of the Nobel Peace Prize spent his final days.

 DAY 6

Today, we will enjoy a lovely drive along the Italian Riviera to the historical port city of Genoa, birthplace of Christopher Columbus. With its pastel-coloured houses topped with terracotta roofs, beautiful old palaces and churches, the historical centre of Genoa is simply brimming with quaint, tiny streets and alleys. In Piazza Dante, you can visit the birthplace and museum of Christopher Columbus, wander down the famous Via Garibaldi with its impressive baroque buildings and explore the Old Harbour and its world-class Aquarium.

DAY 7

We start our journey back with an overnight stop in Dijon with a fixed menu. Overnight bag required.

DAY 8

Next day we speed home and your taxi collects you from the ferry to take you home.
