We start the day at Spittal of Glenshee, situated at the heart of where four glens meet. Linn-o-dee is a snapshot of a Highland landscape with a pine forest and heather moorland. We continue for an included visit of Balmoral Castle, a holiday retreat for Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family during the summer. Enjoy exhibitions in the stable area and the Castle Ballroom with an audio guide. Explore the formal gardens, started under the supervision of Prince Albert, that contain Victorian glasshouses and a conservatory. In the afternoon we continue the half mile to
Crathie Kirk where Queen Victoria came to worship and our Queen celebrates Christmas.
We start our day at Loch Tummel, one of the most beautiful parts of Perthshire’s ‘Big Tree Country’. Overlooking the Loch is The Queen’s View, a famous spot of natural beauty. The photogenic scene affords breathtaking lake and mountain panoramas. Continue to Sma’ Glen, an idyllic Highland glen, with the fast-flowing River Almond running along the narrow valley. With a unique position in the history of Scotland we visit Scone Palace. See the art, antiques and architecture, including rare collections of French furniture and bedhangings of Mary, Queen of Scots while in prison on Loch Leven. Tea or Coffee and home-baked Scones are served before you make you way back to the hotel.
DAY 5 – HALF DAY
Visit Dunkeld, one of the best-preserved historic towns in Scotland before we continue to Glamis Castle. It has seen over 1000 years of history within its red sandstone walls, occupied by Cromwell’s troops in 1650 and inspiration for Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. See the romantic turrets and towers as you approach the castle along its mile-long drive, then step inside and see the splendid interior. This was the birth place of the Queen Mother and her Scottish home.
Full Day excursion into the Spey Valley taking a trip back in time on the Strathspey Steam Railway.
