IOW Tours have a great day trip for you to enjoy the last of the last Summer Sun this October as we GoWightaway to Winchester’s Hampshire Farmers Market and enjoy the Summer produce, with an afternoon visit to the Museum of The King’s Royal Hussars – discover the story of three famous Cavalry regiments from 1 HorsePower to 1200 HorsePower!

Famous for being featured by Rick Stein’s programme, Winchester Farmers Market can claim to be one of the largest markets in the country. Held in the heart of this historic cathedral city, with over 80 producers from across Hampshire and beyond. Stroll around the huge range of stalls sampling some of the best produce Hampshire has to offer, plus for the gardening enthusiast there are a range of plants, shrubs and trees.

In the afternoon, we take you for a visit to the Museum of The King’s Royal Hussars, where you can trace the history of three famous regiments over a period of 300 years and marvel at the great heroes who won the Victoria Cross for their valour. The dramatic exploits of men who fought in the Peninsula War, the Charge of the Light Brigade and the two World Wars are revealed, with much more besides.

On your arrival at the museum, a member of the museum volunteers will greet you and direct you to the opening audio-visual display where you can sit and relax. After a brief introduction you can follow the history spanning three centuries of our two original regiments, the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales’s Own) and the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own), their successor regiments known as The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales’s Own) which formed in 1969 and the present day regiment which became The King’s Royal Hussars in 1992.

You will find colourful uniforms, hear the sounds of battle and listen to regimental band music; you can try on a real military busby and sit on a saddle in the stable where you will experience the smell of horses and leather.
