Bookings are now open for the 2023 Bracklesham Ukulele Autumn Weekend Workshops.

Below is the list of both free and paid-for workshops
- you need to book on the free workshops as there is a maximum number of places available on all workshops.

PLEASE NOTE WHEN BOOKING WORKSHOPS ONLINE

If you are booking 6 workshops - you will need to select 6 "passengers" in the booking numbers - one for each workshop.
If there are 2 of you booking 6 workshops each - you will have to select 12 "passengers".
So you need to select the same number of "passengers" for every workshop you are booking for, for all the members of your party.
You will need to complete your name for each workshop.
Please then click through the booking process and any workshop payments will be totalled at the end as Supplements.

If you have booked for multiple people in your party - send them the link to this page and they can create their own IOW Tours Account and book their own workshops - to save you the hassle!

With hands on practical advice and super songwriting tips, leave with at least the foundation of a new original song of you own, plus the skills to further develop and hone your writing craft

Discover the hidden beauty of the ukulele by learning how to play a section of melodies including Amazing Grace, the Skye Boat Song, Morning Has Broken and The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Suitable for anyone who can read tab. For this workshop participants will need a standard re-entrant tuned ukulele (high-gCEA).

Matt Hicks

Beat The Sheets

(BEGINNER ONWARDS)

Matt Hicks takes you through his approach to getting the most of your ukulele playing whether composing, playing your favourite songs or jamming with groups. By the end of this workshop you will have obtained a basic foundation of knowledge and resources to develop your skills in playing along without a chord sheet for most songs, improvising with moveable chords and how to get the most out of those individual chord sounds through strum and finger picking techniques.

An intimate, informal and stress free session which is not heavy on theory. You should be comfortable with most chords and basic strumming and picking. This session is designed to put you on a path to your desired level and will be tailored to the collective ability of the group.

Breaking Out Of The Island Strum

(INTERMEDIATE)

This workshop will introduce you to rhythms and strumming patterns from across the globe to help you break out of the same of  D,D,U,U,D,U strumming pattern. You will be transported to Jamaica, the U.S.A and Latin America with your ukulele in hand, ready to learn new, sometimes challenging and exiting strumming patterns.

Compose an original song with Mother Ukers

(BEGINNER ONWARDS)

 

Join the Mother Ukers in this songwriting workshop! You will create your own ‘Ukular Fusion’ with the trio and the participants of the workshop will also have the opportunity to join the band in the evening to perform it live in front of the audience!

Ernest Ka’ai: the first classical ukulele player?

(ADVANCED)

The Hawaiian virtuoso Ernest Ka’ai (1881 -1962) wrote the very first ukulele method in 1906. In this method and his second method (1916) he included a number of fingerstyle pieces which use fingerpicking techniques commonly associated with the classical ukulele style. In this workshop participants will learn several pieces by Ka’ai including Haere, Spanish Fandango and the Banjo Schottische. Suitable for anyone who is confident reading tab and playing fingerstyle pieces. For this workshop participants will need a standard re-entrant tuned ukulele (high-gCEA) and a music stand.

Beginners Guide to Picking Patterns

(BEGINNER ONWARDS)

Are you sick of strumming? Do you like the delicate harp like quality an ‘ukulele can create but don’t know where to start? With input from Zoë Bestel's folk-style playing, learn the basics of picking on your ‘ukulele - perfect for playing your favourite songs a bit differently, or even creating your own music! Get your fingers wiggling and explore the hidden depths of our favourite little instrument.

Adventure into the 12 bar blues

(BEGINNER ONWARDS)

…..including walkdowns, turnarounds and those lovely bluesy 4ths and 6ths.

In true Andy style this is a whirlwind workshop of fun, fast paced learning which is aimed at all levels! You can keep it simple or make it as difficult as you want!
